On the on the original list were punk rockers Dumb Punts, two members of which have a strong connection to the Hastings.
Lead guitar and vocalist James Gallagher, and the band’s drummer, his sister Ciarn, used to live here. In fact, Jimmy G was once a journalist with Wauchope Gazette and the Port News. Now a Melbourne dweller, he says he had to make the move to be part of the punk rock scene and follow his dream.
He misses the beaches, friends and family but says: “There was no point doing a real job when you can do what you really love, as long as you keep your dreams realistic”. Jimmy G heads home every three to four months to reconnect with mates and attend family events. “Melbourne was dragging me down, I wanted to be there for a long time, and it opened my eyes to the music scene.”
Dumb Punts bass player is Brent Lockhart and Adam Ritchie, who produced the band’s EP Coupla Couplas, is considered a fourth member, after capturing their sound exactly to their specifications in just two days of recording and, for about $1000.
The EP is certainly a family affair with Hamish and Ashur Gallagher and Mumma G, all heard on their more mainstream track Chiller. “We were just about to set up the first day we recorded when they rang on the phone. We were mucking around and I told Adam to record it. It’s our most popular song.”
Jimmy G and Ciarn are starting to write a bit more together. “We write very easily, there’s a synchronicity.” He says he is a massive fan of pop songs and will probably start to write more in that vein in the future.
He is stoked to be playing at FOTSUN. “I hit them up last year but we were too late to get on the line-up. There’s a lot of our friends playing.” As to what festival-goers can expect, he says: “We’re not changing the world, we just have a good time. It’s all about fun.”

It will include Port Macquarie’s Anna Wilson, Gen Frickar and Luke Heggie and a chance for FOTSUN’s funniest punter to do his or her own stand-up comedy routine.
