“Right now I’d estimate at least 30 people vying for eight councillor positions, and that’s quite apart from the mayoral vote, plus anyone who might still come forward. It’s tremendous that there’s such interest at this stage, and some really good potential councillors, hopefully including from the Camden Haven.”

Cr Intemann has served four terms on the council standing initially with groups, and then the last two elections as an ungrouped individual.

“Groups can really work, and many people like voting for groups,” she said. “But in my experience a lot of people prefer voting for local government below the line – for individuals and not groups.”

Cr Intemann said the councillor voting rules are easy. To vote above the line, just number one group square, but more is better. To vote below the line, just number at least four candidate names, but more is better. She said the outgoing council has been tremendous for its teamwork and for thinking outside the box.

“There’s been focus across the whole council area, and some progressive new programs, like in roads, plus significant debt reduction. But there’s still plenty to keep on track and improving, so in September we should vote like it matters, because it does,” Cr Intemann said.
