The annual fundraiser for the Starlight Children’s Foundation tees off at Wauchope Country Club from 9.30am. Starlight's mission is to brighten the lives of seriously ill children and their families. Golfers and non-golfers, juniors and mixed teams are all welcome.
There are prizes for nearest pin and the longest drive, plus novelty prizes, raffles and auctions. Entry is $30 per person including lunch.
Sponsor Michael Page from Carpet One has supported the charity for many years. His son, Andrew died aged 15 in 1999 and the Starlight Foundation is close to his heart. “I think it’s a great cause,” he said.
He will also take part in the annual Trek4kidz which raises money for Starlight. This year is the 20th anniversary.
Fundraiser Michelle McDonald outlined the route: “We will be travelling from Griffith, through White Cliffs, Cunnamulla, Lightning Ridge, Narrabri, Inverell, finishing at Coffs Harbour.
“We will start the Trek at Griffith on Saturday August 20 with our opening function, and finish at Coffs Harbour on the following Saturday, August 27.” she said.
Funds raised by this year’s Trek will enable the Starlight Children’s Foundation to support thousands of sick kids in children’s hospitals across Australia.
The Trek4kidz changes locations every year. Michelle said that when they go through towns, they promote what the Starlight Foundation does for children, and raise funds along the way, as well as being sponsored for the trek.
All the cars which take part get sponsored before they go. This year, seven cars are going from the Hastings area. Last year, they raised almost $50,000, and the overall Trek raised more than $260,000.
The Trek is the named sponsor for the Children’s Starlight Room at the John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle. And seven very ill children from this area have had their wishes granted, thanks to the generosity of local people.

About Starlight
Starlight helps sick kids forget their illness and re-discover the joy of childhood.
We know there's more to treatment than medicine. That's why since 1988, Starlight has partnered with Australian health professionals to develop programs based on positive psychology principles that support the 'total care' of our children and teens.
