Sea Acres Rainforest Centre is seeking nature-loving, active people to join a new group of WilderQuest Education volunteers, to learn about and share the wonders of rare subtropical rainforest with children 5-12 year olds.
“WilderQuest was launched in 2012, and aims to get children to fall in love with nature and help us protect it for generations to come,” said Sea Acres Manager, Natalie Talbot.
“Studies show that children are increasingly spending less time in outdoor play and in nature which can have a negative impact on their development.”
WilderQuest includes a website, an iPad app, events and guided activities in national parks across NSW.
The website aims for children to play and learn, as well as to link them to real life opportunities to get involved in nature-based activities..
“The WilderQuest Education volunteers will be a new group, trained to provide nature-based activities with groups of school children during school term and with children and their families during school holidays,” Natalie said.
“We would like to hear from active people who enjoy and have experience working with young people and who would like to focus on presenting activities that are child-centred and inspire a love of nature”.
Joining the Sea Acres volunteer Rainforest Guides team as a WilderQuest Education volunteer is a great way to spend time in a beautiful place and to give something special to the community and the environment.
An outgoing, fun-loving personality and genuine interest in nature are needed.
Training to present WilderQuest activities will be provided.
Volunteer opportunities are available for up to half a day per week on a seven day roster during school term and some school holidays. Rosters are flexible to fit in with volunteers’ existing commitments.
An information session for prospective volunteers will be held on Tuesday July 12, from 10-11.30am.
The information session will include an introduction to volunteering at Sea Acres, information about the new WilderQuest volunteer program followed by morning tea and an opportunity to register your interest.
To find out more, register your interest or to attend the information session, please contact the Rainforest Centre on 6582 3355 between 9am and 4.30pm or email SeaAcres@environment.nsw.gov.au.
