The Molong cattle farmer made a whistle-stop visit to Port Macquarie on June 23 as part of his election campaign as a NSW Senate candidate with Katter’s Australian Party.
“I’m obviously not a politician and I see that as an advantage,” Mr Harris said.
“I would like to think I would bring a commonsense and objective approach to seeing legislation passed.”
He said the party was concerned with rural and regional Australia.
“We are really about regional development and that’s infrastructure, trying to create jobs out of major centres and development of major regional centres so they can grow and prosper,” Mr Harris said.
He said Katter’s Australian Party wanted to stop the sell-off of Australian land and our utilities to foreign entities.
Mr Harris said the party had good programs to get real jobs and try to turn around unemployment figures.
The removal of 457 visas is among his priorities.
The 457 visa allows businesses to temporarily employ skilled overseas workers.
Mr Harris said the system was being abused.
