PORT Saints’ disappointing Football Mid North Coast season continued at Kempsey on Saturday when they were beaten 2-0 by Macleay Valley Rangers.
Coach Mark Rogers had hoped their 1-all draw with Kempsey Saints would be the turning point of their season, but unfortunately for him it wasn’t the case.
Saints again conceded a scrappy goal from a goalmouth scramble after they dominated possession for varying stages of the first half.
Injured captain Anthony Jamieson said it was disappointing they couldn’t improve on their best performance of the season the week before.
“We dominated for 30 to 35 minutes of the first half, had our opportunities, but just couldn’t score,” he said.
“It’s been a similar story for us all season.”
Saints pushed forward in the second half as they searched for an equaliser which left them short at the back and Rangers took advantage.
“We had another couple of good opportunities in the second half,” Jamieson said.
“There were a few good set pieces we took and we had a few good opportunities, but their ‘keeper made some good saves.”
In a positive for the club, Bailey Pascoe made his first grade debut.
Reserve grade suffered a 2-0 loss.
Saints now have a clash with Port FC to look forward to next Saturday with both teams coming off the back of losses.
“Local derby’s are always good matches and it’s a chance for us to bounce back and continue building,” Jamieson said.
