Around 1.05pm Monday, emergency services were called to a section of the Pacific Highway at Cooperabung after a Mazda van and a truck collided head-on.
The man driving the Mazda, the sole occupant of the vehicle, was pronounced dead upon the arrival of emergency services.
The man driving the truck was uninjured but was taken to hospital for mandatory blood and urine testing. He was the only person travelling in that vehicle at the time of the crash.
Initial inquiries indicate the southbound Mazda crossed into the northbound lanes where it collided with the truck.
The northbound lanes are currently closed, with a contraflow in place.

Monday, 3pm: Southbound light vehicles are now diverting away from the Pacific Highway in Cooperabung due to a serious car and truck accident at Cooperabung Close where one person is trapped.
These vehicles are being diverted onto Cooperabung Drive.
Alternating traffic control remains in place for all northbound vehicles and southbound heavy vehicles, but the stop/slow is favouring northbound.
