Community information drop-in sessions will go ahead on Thursday and Saturday.
The plan includes the duplication from two to four traffic lanes to improve traffic flow, upgrading of
six intersections and access points, and improved pedestrian access over the 3.4 kilometre section of
Ocean Drive between Matthew Flinders Drive and Greenmeadows Drive south.
Port Macquarie-Hastings Council received a $10 million state government grant for the project.
It is proposed to stage the dual lane construction as the grant will not fund the entire duplication.
Council's infrastructure and asset management director Jeffery Sharp said these community information sessions would be the first in a series of consultations and provided a great opportunity for the community to view and comment on the latest concept designs.
"The project team from council and design company SMEC will be available to answer any questions, and provide valuable information on all aspects of the project," he said.
The council encourages the community to attend the sessions as an opportunity to have a say, as all comments will be considered during the environmental assessment and design development process.
Initial design work was done during 2013.
The council engaged SMEC in September to continue the concept design, environmental assessment, and detailed design for the project including survey, geotechnical, traffic, environmental investigations and further community consultation.
A community update has been distributed to local residents, and further consultation with the community will occur during the environmental assessment and detailed design phases.
People can drop in at any time to the information sessions at Emerald Downs Community Centre at the lower level of Lighthouse Plaza Shopping Centre.
The first session is between 4pm and 7pm on Thursday, followed by another session from 10am and 1pm on Saturday.
