Police said two men, aged 34 and 27, became involved in an argument just before 3pm on Sunday.
A meat clever and a chair were used in the argument, with both men suffering injuries.
The older man was taken to Port Macquarie Base Hospital and treated for head and leg injuries, a NSW Ambulance spokesman said.
The 27-year-old was arrested on unrelated charges, but was assisting police with their enquiries.
Neither man had been charged yesterday afternoon.
