Port Macquarie Surf Life Saving Club finished second in the 120s women, while Tacking Point got silver in the 120s men and the open women categories.

Tacking Point's men's crew which consisted of Ben Thompson, Ben Green, Paul Ward and Shaun Durbridge finished second despite rowing in their first carnival since before Christmas.

"They were blowing pretty hard," sweep Kevin Owens said.

"It was a good result for them. They were probably the oldest in that category."

They had three thirds in the regular rounds. Wauchope Bonny Hills won that division, followed by Tacking Point and then Crescent Head.

The club's women crew was unlucky to miss out on gold.

The win went to Narooma, but Tacking Point was pipped at the post when its wave gave out.

"Our wave didn't quite fill out," Owens said.

Tegan Maher, Suzie Bell, Kristy Chanock and Ebanie Green are in the women's team.

Port Macquarie Surf Club's 120s women crew made the most of some good fortune to come away with a silver.

The Port rowers finished behind Crescent Head and in front of two Mollymook opponents in good conditions at the titles.

It comes on the back of a nightmare the weekend before at Crescent Head. The girls battled bad luck and other factors.

Sweep Rick Rolff gave the crew "a stern talking to" and it looks to have worked.

"I told them a few facts of life," he said.

They registered two seconds and a third in their regular rounds.

"They had a good bit of luck for a change," Rolff said, referring to a number of races where his rowers had clean runs out to the cans.

"We only got hit once."

The Port crew, made up of Nikki Stafford, Vanessa Peck, Meredith Paterno, Dione Edwards and Rolff, is undecided about tackling the state championships in a month's time.

Meanwhile, Tacking Point's crews are going in the Battle of the Boats at Pacific Palms.

Owens looked forward to gauging how his crews are going against the strong clubs from Sydney and Queensland.

Hard training, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays, will now resume.
