The Macquarie plays Comboyne in the penultimate two-day round, starting tomorrow, and if last year is anything to go by, the team will fire at the right time as the decider looms.
The first placed team at the end of the regular season will go straight through to the grand final. Macquarie is in second spot at the moment, behind Port City Leagues Magpies.
Then it's Port Panthers Pirates in third and Wauchope RSL in fourth. Comboyne is in fifth spot.
"Four teams are right about there," Macquarie captain Michael Pelley, who is back from overseas and ready for more cricket, said. The Macca is aiming for its sixth straight appearance in the final.
Sam Ward and Adrian Sippel are out tomorrow. Ben Cutler has been brought in, but another replacement was, as of yesterday, yet to be decided.
The match is set down for Wayne Richards Park.
Across town, the Magpies will do battle against Port Panthers Pirates at Oxley Oval on a revamped wicket.
Magpies captain Luke Jephcott expects to score about 200 tomorrow, should the team bat first. It's stark contrast to the pitch from previous years.
"In seasons gone by, 100 or 120 was sometimes tough," Jephcott said.
That's not the case at the moment.
"It looks really good," Jephcott said.
Jephcott wasn't aware of the final make up of his team, with selectors still mulling over a couple of players yesterday.
He just looked forward to playing cricket.
The Magpies have a good chance of booking the first place in the final.
"If we could to straight through, that would be good," Jephcott said.
They just have to make sure they don't drop the ball between now and then and slide down the ladder.
"The plan is, obviously, to stay there [at the top of the table]," Jephcott said.
