MOST shots were hit everywhere but straight down the fairway on Friday as golfers tried to improve their handicap during the 17th Mayor's Sporting Fund Golf Day.

Golfers swapped their work pants for putters and one of mayor Peter Besseling's approach shots was a sight to see, even if it did surprise the man himself.
"I don't know how I did it, but if I did I'd do it again," he said.
"The day is a good opportunity to raise money and have some fun, but I've been hitting them left and right."
Besseling summed up his ability with a golf club as one which needed some improvement.
"I'm better at cricket than golf and I'm no good at cricket," he laughed.
It was the third fundraising event of the year with the bowls day and trivia night proving a massive success in helping to raise more than $6000 with all money raised going back into the sporting fund which assists the youth of Port Macquarie realise their dreams.
Elsewhere on the course Michael Summers and his team were happy with their efforts on the front nine.
"Ride your luck, that's all you can do. I'm playing well ... that's the rumour I'm sending out anyway," he said.
Mark Moore and his team had improved on their performance from last year where they finished last.
"We had a team where half hadn't played golf before, I only play once a week and after six holes we were one over," he said.
