Comboyne will fly the flag for New South Wales dairy regions as a finalist in the Dairy Australia campaign.
As a finalist, the Comboyne Community Centre will receive $2500 to put toward a its 'From Our Grass to Your Glass' project, which will see a life-sized fibreglass cow installed in the main street of the town. The grant to the association will also be used to support the establishment of a Legendairy information stall at two Comboyne community events.
If successful and named the Legendairy capital of Australia, the Comboyne community will receive a further $7500 boost.
Dairy Australia program manager, Suzi O'Dell, said selecting the Legendairy capital finalists was no mean feat for the panel who were overwhelmed by the outstanding and passionate nominations.
"We knew Australia was home to plenty of proud, innovative dairy communities but we've been astounded by the quality of nominations and the stories of personal contributions dairy farmers have made to the social fabric of their towns," she said.
"To be associated with such resilient and vibrant communities is an honour and all nominated towns should be incredibly proud of their community, and their contribution to the dairy industry."
As part of the search, Dairy Australia, in association with the Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal (FRRR), called on people across the country to nominate their town for the coveted title by sharing stories about what makes their town Legendairy.
More than 100 nominations were assessed by an independent panel of representatives who selected those towns that best addressed the program's criteria.
The winner will be announced mid-September.
