Now a lecturer at Charles Sturt University's Port Macquarie Campus, he will join a huge list of guest speakers at next Friday's Luminosity Youth Summit.
Time is running out for those who are interested in attending and listening to his story, with registrations closing today.
"I'll talk about self-limiting beliefs which reinforce your subconscious," he said.
"It's why people don't reach their potential. There was no shortage of people that said I was too old and it was going to cost too much, but you choose the way you see challenges - you're only here once."
He said he would focus on the importance of having a balanced outlook on life because it could lead to greatness.
"It's good to do things in moderation, but moderation also leads to mediocrity," he said.
"There has to be a balance across all aspects of your life though, you can't go hell for leather in the living part of your life, you need to show the same passion in how you learn, how you love and the legacy you want to leave."
Luminosity chair Kate Wood-Foye said a limited number of positions remained, but were being snapped up quickly.
"At the moment we're sitting on 200 registered and registrations are still rolling in," she said.
"If people miss out we might release additional spots if the demand is high. We've been swamped in the last couple of days.
"Numbers have been coming in at odd hours and we won't go above 350, but the capacity is settled on 300 as an optimum."
V8 Supercar driver Chaz Mostert and radio personality Maz Compton, along with 60 Minutes journalist Alison Langdon, Paralympian Kurt Fearnley and Australian explorers James 'Cas' Castrission and Justin 'Jonesy' Jones will also share their stories.
"We've had emails from different people wanting to know who our speakers are. A lot of people are really looking forward to hearing from Chaz Mostert who has competed in the V8s at Bathurst and Maz Compton from the Dan and Maz Show has been really popular as well," Ms Wood-Foye said.
