PERFECT weather for touch was last Wednesday. Unfortunately, field four was only half lit even though we had been advised all lights, including the ones burnt out a month ago, were definitely working.

It would seem those in charge don't know what's going on because I was told the parts to fix the lights have not even arrived yet.
Events like this make it extremely difficult for us volunteers to competently provide and safely run a sport for the locals.
On the brighter side, happy birthday to the Port News' own photographer extraordinaire Pete Gleeson. No doubt a few cold ones were consumed and Pete had a good time.
Results from last week show some close games and at least one upset when the Mud Runners took care of heavyweights Coast2Coast by 7-4.
Others were, the young Ambos, CSU Paramedics four defeated The Swamp Monkeys two, The Untouchables really hit their straps with an 8-5 win over The Beach House, The Injectables and Confident Cleaning had an exciting game on field three with Digby Hone scoring a treble to help the Injectables get the biscuits 5-3, Telstra Port Central, even without team sponsors Teale and Linda Bryan, proved too good for Hastings Physio 8-0.
Ineka Martin, playing the best touch of her short career, scored a good try in that match. PDD Advisory Group beat a much improved and enthusiastic Matra Quayside 6-2, CD Bathrooms nine got the better of GN Painting/El Paso four and Bell's Furniture One, or should I say Ryan Ford, who scored all five tries defeated ASN Port Macquarie one who were without their injured co captain Luke Bullus.
This week should produce at least two excellent games. Bell's Furniture One take on CSU Paramedics and this will be a terrific battle if recent form is any indicator.
In the second the Mud Runners play the Beach House and as they both play similar attacking style touch the score could be a big one.
Let's hope for some good weather for the next month or so to let all the fields dry out.
There are some tournaments coming up including the Catholic Schools carnival in June and at the moment Tuffins Lane in particular is looking very touch and go to recover in time.
Anyway, I guess Mother Nature will determine what happens.
Meanwhile, keep in touch.
