The Breakers lost their Anzac Day fixture 22 to 14 against rivals the Wauchope Blues.
While coach Ben Sprague said his side were their own worst enemy in patches, he didn’t take anything away from the opposition.
“We just made too many silly mistakes and made the game much harder for ourselves,” he said.
“Its the third game in a row where we have been on the wrong end of the penalty count so obviously we need to work on the discipline.
“But Wauchope were the much better team on the day, they were more disciplined and played simple and better footy.”
Sprague said the Breakers only managed to complete 50 per cent of their sets for the game and only eight out of 21 sets for the first half.
“When you start like that, against anyone, you’re not going to win,” he said.
“We didn’t have the right attitude.”
It wasn’t all bad news for the Breakers though with experienced players Mitchell Fowler and Dan Dumas making a return to the field.
Fowler was awarded Man of the Match for his efforts.
Sprague also said it was great to see the under 18s manage another win.
“At the start of the year we didn’t think we’d have an 18s side cause we didn’t have enough numbers,” he said.
“And here were are now, and they’ve won their first three games.”
The Port Macquarie Sharks on the other hand had a good 42-26 Anzac Day victory in an away game against the Taree City Bulls.
But captain-coach Matt Shipway said his side need to learn to be able to put the opposition away.
“Once we get on top we seem to drop the intensity and concentration a bit,” he said.
