The head of the group investigating the toddler's suspected abduction, Detective Inspector Gary Jubelin, spoke to media outside Port Macquarie Courthouse on Thursday.
Earlier, the lead investigator of Strike Force Rosann, which was formed after the toddler's disappearance in Kendall more than seven months ago, sat in the local court to hear Bill Spedding's bail application refused.
The officer refused to be drawn on the repairman's arrest, charges and bail refusal, but he said it was not related to the main investigation.
He stressed the investigation into the disappearance will continue.
"We'd encourage any member of the public that has information to come forward and we will be pursuing any line of inquiry," he said.
The momentum has increased since last Friday's emotional appeal by William's parents, who cannot be named or identified for legal reasons.
Det Insp Jubelin said on Thursday a "large amount of information has come through as a result of that appeal from William's parents."
He said the investigation into an alleged paedophile ring "relates to the local area where William disappeared".
He would not say whether further arrests were imminent, and said there should not be concern in the community. Anyone with information about William's disappearance is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
