The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe weather warning for damaging winds, heavy rainfall and dangerous surf conditions from the Mid-North Coast to the South Coast, including Maitland and the Hunter.
Heavy rain, very strong winds, and dangerous surf conditions are already being felt from the Illawarra to the Hunter, with conditions expected to further intensify on Monday afternoon.
These conditions are caused by a developing low pressure system off the Mid North Coast, combined with a strengthening high pressure ridge over the southern Tasman Sea.
The bureau has issued a flood watch for the NSW coast from the Manning Valley to the Central Coast.
At this stage there is a greater than 70 per cent chance of flooding in the following river valleys from early Tuesday morning onwards:
- Manning Valley - including Gloucester - minor to moderate flooding
- Karuah Valley - including Bulahdelah - minor to moderate flooding
- Hunter Valley - including Scone - minor to moderate flooding
- Paterson and Williams Rivers (lower Hunter Valley) - moderate to major flooding
- Lake Macquarie - minor flooding
- Wyong Valley - Tuggerah Lake - minor flooding
- Lower Hawkesbury Valley - Colo River - minor to moderate flooding
A severe weather warning also is current.
The flood watch will be reviewed by 11am Tuesday.
