After several hours, the lake, which tipped the 1.6 metre trigger level under Port Macquarie-Hastings Council's Lake Opening Strategy, was gushing out to sea.
Bodyboarders, fishermen and local business owners rejoiced the lake's opening saying it would make a significant difference to the normally quiet village this Easter school holidays.
