Dr Sandy Clarke, now a Port Macquarie GP, appears on ABC1's observational documentary series Outback ER.
Dr Clarke, who worked several stints at Broken Hill Base Hospital emergency department, is one of five doctors featured in the documentary series.
"People work in the ED because they like a bit of drama," Dr Clarke said. "Who doesn't like telly drama?"
Outback ER introduces viewers to the emergency response teams who live and work in the remote region - the staff from Broken Hill Base Hospital emergency department, the Ambulance Service of NSW and the Royal Flying Doctor Service.
"I think they have done a beautiful job," Dr Clarke said about Outback ER. "I think it is warm and engaging, and I think it captures Broken Hill well."
Broken Hill, at the centre of the sparsely settled NSW outback, is home to no nonsense locals who live hard and play hard.
Dr Clarke enjoyed not only working in the city's emergency department but also liked the people and the vibe of the remote city.
"It's an enchanting place and the people are great," she said.
These days Dr Clarke is a GP at Greenmeadows Medical which she says has almost no similarities to Broken Hill Base Hospital emergency department.
"The people are really different and the medicine is really different," Dr Clarke said. "I like the hours here, the lifestyle of general practice and I love my patients."
And it turns out Dr Clarke's patients enjoy watching her in action on Outback ER.
"They seem really excited to recognise someone they deal with on the telly," she said.
In Thursday night's episode, brothers require urgent treatment after they both cut their hands in a freak circular saw accident.
Paramedics attend to a child with a suspected spinal injury, a young man has an embarrassing pain in his bottom and hospital staff come to terms with the death of a patient.
Outback ER screens on Thursdays at 8pm on ABC1.
