Giffin is in town for the Great Grass Hair Challenge, where he will speak about his son Joe's battle with neuroblastoma.
Joe was diagnosed with the solid tumor cancer, arising out of the sympathetic nervous system, at age two, and today is a healthy 12-year-old.
Part of Giffin's visit will still focus on his sporting exploits. He and Port Macquarie-Hastings Council mayor Peter Besseling will conduct a question and answer session.
The pair were in the ACT Brumbies squad together in the late 1990s.
"I haven't seen him since I left," Giffin said.
He and Besseling will have plenty to refer to in talking about Giffin's on-field achievements. Giffin scored the winning try in the Brumbies' 2001 Super 12 win over Coastal Sharks.
The Brumbies thrashed the Sharks 36-6.
Giffin was part of the Wallabies' World Cup winning side in 1999. The Wallabies beat France 35-12 in the decider.
He tasted defeat in the final in 2003 when Englishman Johnny Wilkinson sank Australian hearts with a field goal in extra time to snatch the Cup away.
"It was pretty disappointing," he said.
"I thought we were the better side at the time."
He was humble about his five-pointer in the 99 Super 12 final.
"It was a charge down and I just fell on the ball," Giffin said.
