But there was not enough money in the kitty to add shade sails at the new inclusive play space at Westport Park, a partnership project by the community, national charity Touched by Olivia and Port Macquarie-Hastings Council.
Touched by Olivia is raising money to fund two shade sails.
The target is about $20,000.
Touched by Olivia executive officer Rebecca Ho said the playground was all about inclusion.
"We want Livvi's Place to be a place where people spend hours and connect with the community," she said.
Ms Ho said the shade sails were needed for protection from the sun.
"A lot of children with disability, their condition means they can't be in the sun," Ms Ho said. "Having the shade sail means they are able to spend time socialising and being included."
The playground is an example of collaboration.
The council contributed about $130,000, the NSW Sport and Recreation Infrastructure Program provided $50,000 said Newcastle Permanent Charitable Foundation donated $50,000 towards the project. Ms Ho said the playground was so special.
"My mind is blown by what the council and the landscape architect have been able to do with the budget we had," she said. "The playground is an asset for the whole community."
