Besseling captured the wickets of Liam Coelho (lbw), Keith McLeod (bowled) and Matt Tonkin (bowled) after first getting some quick tips from ex-international swing bowler Nathan Bracken.
Besseling finished with a meagre 4-12 from four overs at Wayne Richards Park.
He also had Hastings River District Cricket Association president Shane Williams stumped.
He was more than pleased with his first hit out in the sport since the under 12s.
"It was great, a lot of fun," Besseling said.
"I'm pretty sore today."
He used his height well at the crease, and Besseling also bowled straight.
"The lbw was plumb," he said of Coelho's wicket.
"I just tried to get them near the stumps."
Besseling said he was unlucky not to get a coveted five-wicket haul.
"I was robbed," he said.
Besseling's Legends team came up short on the night. Both teams lost seven wickets in their 20 overs, but the Locals scored too many runs.
"I didn't think we had enough runs," Williams said.
"Our star batsman Chris Cole got a duck, and Liam Coelho didn't get many."
While Williams wasn't happy to be dismissed by the mayor, he was thrilled with the large crowd on hand for the event.
"It was a ripper of a night," he said.
