I LIVE in Port Macquarie and drive a medium sized 4X4 and choose to fuel it with high octane diesel fuel (recommended for my vehicle).

This fuel is only available regularly from Caltex service stations (and very few Shell service stations).
In Port Macquarie, currently, this fuel is available for 165.9 cents per litre. In Wauchope, 157.9 cents per litre. In Kempsey, 157.9 cents per litre.
In Newcastle and Taree, 152.9 cents per litre. In Macksville, 150.9 cents per litre and Coolongolook, yesterday for 149.9 cents per litre!!
That is 15 and 16 cents per litre less expensive in Macksville and Coolongolook than Port Macquarie.
I needed to make a number of trips to Sydney early this year and in the last year I have travelled approximately 40,000 kilometres and at that rate the difference would be $660 per year.
Why should I have to pay $660 per year more for fuel because I choose to live in Port Macquarie not Macksville?
I would like to spend my money in Port Macquarie but I must admit I cannot remember the last time I filled my car here. I put enough fuel in my car to get me to the nearest cheap fuel and always fill my vehicle before I get back.
The old excuse that this extra cost is cost of transport related does not hold water any more. It does not cost $4500 more to take a tanker of fuel from Macksville or Coolongolook to Port Macquarie.
