The event will pit lawyer against lawyer, pollie against pollie, identity against identity, and mate against mate when they debate the topic disco versus rock 'n' roll.
Lawyer Graeme Falvey, Port Macquarie MP Leslie Williams, ironwoman Melinda Cockshutt and real estate agent David Plews will argue the merits of disco, with lawyer Justin Levido, mayor Peter Besseling, Mount Seaview Natural Springwater director Anthony Abi-Saab and marketing guru Jane Hillsdon on the side of rock 'n' roll.
2MC presenter Mark Strachan is the moderator.
Mr Plews organised the debate as his flagship fund raiser for the Hastings Celebrity Dance for Cancer.
The dance will see local identities donning their dancing shoes on November 28 to raise funds for Cancer Council NSW.
Mr Plews hopes the great debate will raise about $2000 to $2500.
"There will be some interesting arguments brought up," he said about the debate. "We want to get the business community together and have a bit of fun."
Both sides are confident about their arguments ahead of the debate.
Mr Abi-Saab predicted the debate would make for a very interesting afternoon.
"It's good to see people outside of their general roles," he said.
The great debate is at Rydges Port Macquarie from 12.30pm to 2.30pm on Wednesday.
Tickets are available through Rydges Port Macquarie on 6589 2888 at a cost of $59 a person, including a two course lunch.
