The two teams will meet tomorrow in what is often billed as one of the most fierce of the home town derby's.
President, David Barnes, said while the rivalry will still be present, players will focus on making sure the Vikings get the win.
A victory will give the Vikings a week off, but, most importantly, it means they will go straight into the grand final with the game to be played on their hollowed turf.
A loss though will see the Pirates enjoy the break and steal the right to host the grand final.
Either way, the losing side will go on to play the winner between the Kempsey Cannonballs and Coffs Rugby.
The winner from that game will be the second team into the grand final and the loser will not play on.
Barnes said it was important for the Vikings to secure a home grand final.
"The rivalry between the two teams always makes the rugby better on the day," he said.
"But our focus will be on winning that home final.
"Getting the week off is also important, playing the Pirates is always a hard, tough game and it's important the guys get a week off to help out any niggling injuries that might be picked up.
"We don't want to lose and then go on and have to play another team after playing the Pirates."
Barnes said the expected conditions will suit the Vikings play to a tee.
"The bonus for us will be it will be wet and so we'll probably focus on our forwards which has been our strength all year," he said.
Barnes also said his team would be buoyed by watching reserve grade take the field before the main event.
"It always lifts a team getting to watch and cheer on your club," he said.
"It really makes a difference.
"Were expecting a big crowd despite the wet weather.
"There will be plenty of marquees set up for everyone so I don't think the rain will stop people coming to a big game like this one."
Kick off will be 3pm with a $5 entry.
