A meeting was held last night between the recently formed Hastings Valley BMX club and the Port Macquarie Cycle Club.
A proposal was put forward by BMX president, Craig Maltman to use some of the land occupied by the Cycle Club off Burrawan Forest Drive south of Port Macquarie.
The proposal was passed without objection.
Maltman said it was a huge step forward for the club.
"It hasn't been finalised by council but the Cycle Club have approved for us to use part of their land which they lease off council," he said.
"One of the big things I realised when I took this on, is there's just not much land available in Port Macquarie.
"But I think a BMX track would work really well out there with the existing facilities."
Maltman said the next step was to get the proposal approved through council and begin searching for sponsorship, start fundraising and investigate government grants.
President of the Port Macquarie Cycle Club, Kevin Fletcher, said the idea was supported "in principal".
"I think it is a good idea to have it out there," he said.
"From our point of view it would mean much more use of our venue."
He said it was the perfect relationship to build on between the two clubs.
"Most cyclists start off in BMX," he said.
"Robbie McEwen started off in BMX and once they outgrow it they move on.
"Realistically, it's a perfect fit, it means more kids riding bikes and with it being out of town, their parents will bring them out and you might see more involvement from them too."
