Landers was severely injured playing rugby league on a Port Macquarie sporting field earlier this year for the Forster Tuncurry Hawks.
After originally being told he would be in hospital for 12 months, Curtis was given good news this week.
He has now been discharged from hospital and is back at his hometown in Forster.
Being told he would never walk again, the courageous young Hawks rugby league player has defied the odds to do just that.
He will have to spend another one to two years in a wheelchair as his muscular system strengthens, however he has limited walking.
Through the struggles, many great events have been held to raise money for the Curtis Landers appeal with local businesses and groups, the NRL, several clubs and the Footy Show becoming involved. Curtis has also been treated to a couple of NRL games by the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs, his favourite team.
President of the Forster Hawks Junior Rugby League Club Warren Blissett said the youngster was in high spirits and continues to recover at a remarkable rate.
“He is in extremely high spirits, all because of the different levels of support he has received from the game and the community,” Mr Blissett said.
“It keeps his family in high spirits as well, to see Curtis going so well.
“It’s a small community, everyone knows everyone and he will continue to receive the utmost support.
“Everyone is behind him and he’s continuing to progress with his miracle recovery.”
