Whether it is hearing loss prevention by hearing protection or hearing improvement, Hearlinx has been a local hearing health provider for more than 10 years in Port Macquarie, Kempsey and South West Rocks and have improved the life of many local residents.
Darryl Ward is a aenior audiometrist at Hearlinx in Port Macquarie and has urged people to get themselves checked.
“One in four people are affected by hearing loss and only 15 per cent of people who should be wearing hearing aids actually are,” he said.
“A lot of people wait a very long time to get something done about it. People often associate hearing loss with old age but that’s not always the case.
“There are many reasons for hearing loss that affect people of all ages.”
Hearing Awareness Week is between August 24 and August 31 and anyone concerned are urged to undertake the free hearing health check to determine if anything else needs to be done.
“This week is more about making people aware of hearing loss and to give a call of arms to those who may need to be tested,” he said. “We do a free hearing check to determine if anything else needs to be done.”
Port Macquarie Hastings Mayor Peter Besseling was more than happy to step up to the plate and have his hearing checked.
“Peter’s hearing came up good and he was happy with the result,” Mr Ward said. “He will now return in two years time for another check-up, which is the normal process.
“To have someone of his stature and age bracket is very good for the cause.
“ We were very happy to see him getting involved so hopefully it will strike a chord with certain people who may think they have an issue and encourage them do something about it.”
