Our Missile was almost a full second faster than anyone else including who has been touted as his biggest threat, team mate Cameron McEvoy.
Magnussen clocked a time of 48.47 over the 100 metres and in his post race interview with Leisel Jones said he was feeling confident.
"I've probably worked harder on my mental preparation then physical," he said.
"I think it's just better for quality of life outside the pool I'm feeling a lot more confident in myself now and hopefully that will transfer at this meet and in then pool."
Magnussen followed it up with another explosive swim in the semi finals bettering his heat time with a 48.21.
He will meet McEvoy, another Australian swimmer in Tommaso D'Orsogna and the rest of his opponents in the 100 metre final at about 4am tonight (ie: Monday morning).
