Since attempting her first masterpiece in mid-May, the talented exercise-physiologist-by-day’s popularity has snowballed.
In just one month, the 24-year old’s sand art has featured on the UK’s Daily Mail website, attracted 600 fans on her Facebook page and been showcased in an exhibition at Wauchope’s Living Room (on show until July 5).
The Daily Mail website has an international audience, with up to 30 million “clicks” on the page each day.
Along with an article and photographs by local photographer Lindsay Moller, the Daily Mail website included a time lapse video demonstrating how she creates intricate patterns in the sand.
“I have no idea how the Daily Mail saw the original Port News article (on June 11), but it has all just snowballed since then,” she said.
“The producer from Sunrise contacted my parents on Monday and by Thursday I was on TV.
“I was really excited about photos of my work being in the Daily Mail, but totally surprised to be contacted by Sunrise.
“I don’t have any expectations about the Sunrise stint, but given the attention so far, who knows what will happen.”
In addition to the growing crowds who love to watch Miss Dickey in action with her rake, the Lake Cathie artist has also been fielding requests from local lovebirds wanting to create something special for their big day.
