Deputy Prime Minister and Infrastructure and Regional Development Minister Warren Truss, Lyne MP Dr David Gillespie and Port Macquarie MP Leslie Williams joined Port Macquarie-Hastings Council representatives to tour the stadium and inspect plans on Wednesday.
The council is working to finalise the funding agreements with the state and federal government based on the construction certificate approval.
It anticipates the construction tender will be advertised in June and go to the August council meeting for consideration.
The $5.3 million project, a combination of state and federal funding, will incorporate three extra courts, associated infrastructure and a PCYC.
The state government has committed $2.5 million to add PCYC facilities, and the federal government is providing $2.8 million towards the sporting expansion.
Port Macquarie has been without a PCYC since 2008.
Sports groups have long recognised the need for more courts.
Mr Truss said it would be an impressive complex.
"When you have major sporting events in town, that is good news for the local economy," Mr Truss said.
"People want somewhere to stay, they want something to eat and somewhere to fill up their cars with petrol."
Dr Gillespie spoke about the potential to attract regional tournaments to an expanded facility.
"There is a lot of spin-offs from sporting events, particularly with the capacity to host large regional, national and even international events," he said.
Port Macquarie MP Leslie Williams said she worked hard to get a PCYC back on the table for the community.
Mayor Peter Besseling paid tribute to the community reference group.
"It is a great example of good community consultation that provides a better outcome in some instances," he said.
"I think everyone is excited about the opportunities and we are looking forward to it progressing to a stage where we have a regional facility that caters for a whole range of indoor sports."
