He left the field in his wake as he smashed out a course record to win the 2014 Busselton 70.3.
Berkel clattered him in three hours 43.07 seconds - and it was his snappy 21.1km run at an average of 3.28/km which allowed him to surge over the line in first.
An average speed of 43.51km/hr on the90km bike ride didn't hurt either.
Berkel's stats were: 1.9km swim in 23.14; 90km bike 2.04:07 and 21.1km run in 1.13:26
Courtney Atkinson, who made the transition from bike to the run first, couldn't follow it through. Alex Reithmeir finished in second with Sam Appleton third.
Kate Bevilaqua won the women's event ahead of Rebecca Hoscke and Kate Duffield.
