Lynne Tubb took up the challenge which is hosted between Lions Clubs to raise funds for the Lions NSW/ACT Save Sight Foundation.
Mrs Tubb, who herself is visually impaired, said $5500 has so far been raised in her name for the challenge.
Together with $3000 raised from the sale of Christmas cakes and donations from local businesses, a raffle has cleared almost $2100 after expenses.
The raffle, conducted over a three month period, was drawn by Mrs Tubb on Thursday April 17 at Port Central.
A last minute rush resulted in a total sell-out of tickets. Mrs Tubb said she was "over the moon" with the result of the fund-raising effort and praised all her Tacking Point Lions Club helpers who spent many long hours selling tickets. Results of the raffle are: first prize of a Weber Q barbecue and $500 fuel voucher, donated from raffle proceeds by Tacking Point Lions Club, was won by Lorraine Best of Lighthouse Beach, second prize of his and hers Ray Ban sunglasses, donated by OPSM Settlement City, was won by Mark Hurrell of Comboyne and third prize of a HomeMakers Package, with components donated by Harvey Norman and Woolworths, was won by K Ditton of Laurieton.
Mrs Tubb's fundraising efforts for Lions NSW/ACT Save Sight Foundation are continuing.
The next fundraiser is a dinner at Westport Bowling Club on Friday May 16, 2014 from 6.30pm.
The guest speaker is Professor Peter McKluskey, a professor of clinical ophthalmology and eye health, director of the Save Sight Institute, and consulting ophthalmologist at the institute.
Professor McKluskey is an entertaining speaker who will 'open your eyes' on everyday eye problems as well as provide current developments and practices in eye research.
All are welcome, especially health professionals and community members.
