Traffic regularly banks up at the intersection.
The intersection work started in October.
Port Macquarie-Hastings Council’s group manager infrastructure delivery Gary Randall confirmed kerb and guttering works at the busy intersection will be completed this week. The final stage of the construction sequence, pavement resurfacing, will also continue this week.
Mr Randall said asphalt placement would take about three weeks and would continue over the Easter holidays, however work would be carried out at night to minimise any impact on traffic movement.
Completion of asphalt placement will be followed by the construction of median islands as well as line marking, signage installation and landscaping.
Mr Randall said weather permitting, and subject to timely completion of works by various sub-contractors, the project was on track for completion in early May.
The intersection work is part of the overall upgrade of Hastings River Drive between Park Street and Boundary Street.
The installation of the traffic lights coincides with the completion of the Port Macquarie airport upgrade and an expected increase in traffic volume.
The work, with a cost of about $2.5 million, forms part of the adopted operational plan for this financial year.
