Port Macquarie-Hastings Council senior lifeguard Grant Hudson said rock platforms would be dangerous in the next few days because of easterly swells but blue-ringed octopuses posed an added risk.
Blue-ringed octopuses are only small and are considered relatively docile but their venom is powerful enough to kill an adult human within minutes.
Any sightings should be reported to council lifeguards or volunteer life savers.
