The woman was walking with her son along the popular Port Macquarie headland when she slipped and rolled several metres into a rocky crevice.
Her son phoned the ambulance service, who arrived at the scene and launched the hour long rescue operation. Paramedics were assisted by Port Macquarie SES personnel in the rescue.
Duty operations manager for NSW Ambulance in Port Macquarie, Steve Towle, said the woman was thought to have suffered neck injuries and as a result, was lifted by rescuers across the rocks to the beach before being transported to hospital.
She is in a stable condition and was receiving treatment in Port Macquarie Base Hospital.
It was expected she would be released by about 8pm Wednesday.
