The newborn was the first baby to enter the world at Port Macquarie Base Hospital in 2014 much to the delight of proud parents Jessie and Shane Bryans.
“It’s a great birthday to have,” Jessie said about New Year’s Day.
Charlotte was born 8.40am, tipping the scales at 3.4kg, at the end of a three hour and 40 minute labour for Jessie.
The Port Macquarie Base Hospital registered nurse and midwifery student can now draw on her experience when helping maternity patients.
“It was definitely a great experience to be able to take back,” Jessie said.
“Not that I wasn’t empathetic before, but I think I will go back on the same level as the mums.”
Jessie was drawn to a maternity show on television as a child but didn’t realise a midwifery career beckoned.
“I’ve always loved babies and always tried to get maternity placements as a registered nurse,” she said.
New Year’s Day will always be a special time for the family.
New dad Shane is proud of Jessie and Charlotte.
“Just to see Jessie not to have any drugs [during labour] and for it to happen so quickly, it was amazing how strong she was,” he said.
Shane described his daughter as beautiful.
Charlotte is a grandchild for Geoff and Mary Kearns from Port Macquarie.
