Port Macquarie-Hastings Council and NSW Fire & Rescue will conduct the burns weather permitting and with confirmation of resources over the next few weeks as conditions allow.
The burns will take place in council reserves on Saturday adjacent to Hamlyn Drive and Tristania Avenue in Port Macquarie and on Sunday there will be an additional hazard reduction burn on the corner of the Oxley Highway and Findlay Avenue in Port Macquarie.
Saturday’s burn is expected to run from 10am to 3pm while Sunday’s burn is expected to run from 1pm, subject to conditions.
The Port Macquarie-Hastings area has, on average, 320 bush fires a year of which 25 per cent can be considered major fires. The main sources of ignition include escaped private burns, lightning strikes and arson/fire setting.
You are asked to exercise caution around all planned hazard reduction burns. Traffic management will be implemented as required.
