The front of his golden Holden Commodore was crumpled on impact when he hit a pole in John Oxley Drive at about 3.15pm.
He was the only occupant of the vehicle.
The accident brought down wires but they are not believed to be powered.
Police closed off the road and turned traffic around which was forced to detour.
The vehicle is being towed from the scene.
The driver gave a breath analysis to police at the scene. It is not known if he was under the influence but was being taken but to the Port Macquarie police station.
He was not injured.
