IT was almost a one-act family affair as the Shipways cleaned up at the Port Macquarie Sharks' presentation night at Blue Water Bar and Restaurant on Friday.
In front of special guests, deputy mayor Bob Sharpham, Penrith Panthers duo Trent Waterhouse and Joel Clinton, first grade captain Matt Shipway collected the Port News player of the year award and younger brother Ray did likewise in the under 18 category.
The pair also secured the players' player titles in their respective divisions while Ray went one step further by being named best and fairest as well.
First grade second-rower, and last year's Port News trophy recipient, Michael Bright broke the Shipway partnership, winning the best and fairest honour.
The Group 2 premiers named hooker Jeremy Lang as best forward and goalkicking winger Luke Sprague the side's best back.
Fullback Josh Mann, who received the coach's award, also gained life membership.
In reserve grade, halfback-hooker Jason Jones and second-rower Nigel Stonham stood out above the pack.
Jones picked up the Port News player of the year and players' player double, while Stonham captured best and fairest and best forward.
Gifted youngster Alfred Ned, the under 18 best back, took out Reg Alaban Memorial rookie of the year.
First grade centre Jared McCarthy, a member of the North Coast under 18 representative side, received the Sharks' achievement award.
Clubperson of the year was popular trainer Robbie Marr, while an appreciation award went to injured player Ben Thompson.
Prop Nathan Maher and under 18's Tyson Kennett secured most improved club senior and junior respectively.
"It was a great night for the boys to let their hair down after some 11 months of preparation to win the title," Sharks' assistant secretary Les Murphy told the Port News.
"No doubt, the highlight of the night was the Shipway brothers winning the Port Macquarie News senior and junior player of the year awards.
"Matt Shipway added the senior award to his Coffs Coast Advocate and the Group 2 player of the year honours.
"Another well received presentation was Josh Mann's life membership and he now joins his father Phil in that category.
"Clubperson of the year saw Robbie Marr receive a standing ovation when he was announced as the winner of this award.
"Robbie is just a special person who just loves the Sharks and attends all training runs and matches as the club's number one water boy and helper.
"The rookie of the year went to the brilliant junior half Alfred Ned, who looks like joining the Gold Coast Titans in 2007.
"Jared McCarthy, who was eligible for the juniors, played first grade all season, represented Group 2 and North Coast and deserved 2006 achievement award."
