David Morris, the general manager of Supercraft and avid triathlete, was killed as he cycled along the M7.
His training partner Dean Hanckel was critically injured in the accident and remains in hospital.
“This is such a sad and terrible loss,” IMG’s director of Athletics and Fitness and Ironman Australia spokesman, Dallas O’Brien, said.
“David was 100 per cent passionate and committed to everything he did in life.
“He absolutely loved being involved with Ironman and we were looking forward to meeting up this week in Port Macquarie to make the announcement that Supercraft have come on board as the new presenting sponsor for Ironman Australia.”
As well as supporting Australia’s two Ironman events, Supercraft sponsored Jason Shortis and Mitch Anderson, two of Australia’s top Ironman triathletes.
Mr Morris is survived by his wife Jennifer and daughter Ainslie.
His family has asked any donations in David’s memory be made to the KIDS Foundation, official charity for Ironman Australia. Donations may be made online at www.kidsfoundation.org.au.
