The 30-year-old, who clocked 4:01.53 in 2008, heads a strong field with runner-up Port Macquarie’s Tim Berkel and third placegetter Brian Fuller also returning.
Joining the pro men’s list is Nathan A’Bell, Chris Dmitrieff, Jamani Francis, local duo Adam Holborow and Mitch Robbins, Chris Waterhouse, Boyd Conrick and Joshua Rix.
The pro women include Lisa Marangon, who placed third in 2007, Nicole Ward and Kirsten Molloy, who finished third and fifth respectively last year.
“Entries for this weekend’s race are now closed and we will have 778 individuals competing, as well as another 95 teams,” media director Mike McElligott said.
“The individuals feature 90 locals, which is an increase from 68 in 2008.
“Also, this year, we have three Port Macquarie guys participating in the pro men’s division, which highlights how the sport of triathlon has grown in the community.
“Tim (Berkel) finished second and Adam (Holborow) captured ninth in 2008, while Mitch (Robbins) is racing in that category for the first time.
“Furthermore, we have 95 teams hitting the course.
“We’ve found that the teams’ event is a great launching pad for athletes to move on to tackle the Half Ironman as individuals in future races.”
