One of the founders of the Uncle Tobys Ironman Super Series, Craig Riddington, travelled from his base at Manly to assist with the awards ceremony.
“A lot of preparation went into the afternoon and special thanks must go out to Settlement City Shopping Centre and Kate Burns for their great support throughout the season as well as the terrific support on the day,” Geoff Woodham told the Port News.
“Settlement City Shopping Centre’s assistance has enabled the club to achieve outstanding progress and without their support, along with Andrew Miedecke, Stacks the Law Firm, Bond's tee-shirts, Sovereign Hills, Get Juiced and Newcastle Permanent, we would have struggled with the preparation of our teams and the outstanding efforts of our kids throughout the year.
“There have been some great performances with Tyler Hyde showing terrific form in the under 8s.
“Tyler took out the flags, sprint and wade at the Country Championships and gained much experience at the State Carnival at Swansea earlier in the year.
“On the back of this performance, he edged out Josh Dwyer and Hayden Bailey for the under eight age champion for the club.
“Lilly Smith, Jenna Goodfellow and Abbey Towle also competed strongly throughout the year and showed real grit and determination, taking out the top places in the under eight girls.”
Jacinta McAvoy showed real class with a standout performance across sprints, flags, wade and swimming.
Her attendance at training and commitment to improve her skills is reflective of why she was voted the under nine’s female age champion.
Others to impress included Jessica Mason and Willow Rissel.
The top three places in the boys were taken out by Ben Adams, Jack Daly and Jonah Scully.
The under 10 male and female nippers have worked hard to maintain their competitive edge this year.
Cassidy New, Keely Scully and Toni Hurkett led the charge with Sam Woodham, Max Carter and Mitchell Bailey securing the top places for the boys.
Elinor Wright, Jessica Towle and Brook Bailey shone in the under 11 girls while Tate Rissell, Lachlan Freewin and Lachlin Anderson took out the major berths in the boys.
Annie Smith and Michael Filetti finished first in the under 12s.
Sally Hurkett and Liam Wright displayed great stamina to take out the 13's age group and look certain to lead the nippers into the new season.
Sam Filetti and Amber Carew honoured the club by winning the Mid-North Coast Nipper of the Year awards while also taking out first place for the under 14s.
“We thank Amber and Sam, along with Selina Warrington and Craig Graham, for all that they have given to the junior club,” Woodham admitted.
“They’ve led the club with great pride and have inspired many young nippers through their performance and example.
“The Port Macquarie Surf Life Saving Club has enjoyed a strong year under the stewardship of Steve Filleti and his management team.
“We owe a great deal of thanks to Steve and the endless number of hours that he has contributed.”
The clubperson of the year was won by Tony Wright.
