The next generation of lifesavers is all set to dip its collective toe in the seas of summer but the Hastings’ three surf clubs are planning ahead.
Wauchope-Bonny Hills and the two Port Macquarie surf clubs will hold registration days for new and existing members over the next couple of weeks.
The junior club president at Tacking Point Surf Life Saving Club said two sign-on days are planned.
“We cater for children of all different skill levels from those who are just starting through to the serious
competitor,” Stewart Dowrick said.
“Tacking Point is about teaching kids skills in a fun supportive environment.
It’s a different plan of attack for the Wauchope-Bonny Hills club’s junior president Leanne Goggin.
“We are in a building phase this year which will be very challenging because of the renovations but we are very excited,” Ms Goggin said.
“Anyone wishing to register will need to get in early because we are capping each age group to a maximum of 30 nippers this season.”
Chairman of the Port Macquarie Surf Lifesaving Club’s junior activities committee, Grant Bailey, said the club would return to the grass roots this year.
“Sundays will be a fun experience for our kids and there will be a real focus on educating our nippers to be safe in the ocean. We will also offer support to kids who wish to compete for the club this season as well,” Mr Bailey said.
“We are all about building camaraderie and developing friendship.
