Bandmate Simon Nancarrow was whacking his drum sticks on a bike seat and Cal Pritchard was playing bass by the main road.
When Williamson’s dad yelled out “Bit stranded boys?”, they thought it would be the perfect name for their three-piece band.
Stranded has come a long way from playing bike seats and will compete at the Global Battle of the Bands regional finals at Sydney’s Hilton Hotel on Monday.
Pritchard said the boys were was looking forward to the event.
“It should be sick fun,” he said.
The bassist and guitar and vocalist Williamson, both 16-year-old Port Macquarie High School students, will – with drummer Nancarrow, 22 – compete against 13 bands.
They have eight minutes on stage to convince the judges of their talent.
“We have been trying to work out what songs we will play out of our list because we want to play something commercial that also shows our original music side,” Pritchard said.
He said their sound was “a vast mixture of bands”.
If the band wins the regional finals they will then progress to the state finals.
National then world finals – to be held in London – follow.
“If we can get into the states or nationals hopefully we can get a recording company to notice us or get a good following for other comps,” Pritchard said.
“We’d be lying if we said we’re just in it to have fun – we are in this to win and we can do it.”
