I was buoyed by the meeting outcomes and the constructive dialogue of the elected body. It is a privilege to return as mayor with such a progressive and productive team.
I think the mix of women and men, experience and youth, will really set a positive tone for the term ahead.
One of the key outcomes was the election of our new deputy mayor, councillor Adam Roberts
I congratulate him and look forward to working with Cr Roberts as he supports me in my second term.
The deputy mayor is an important office and holds important civic functions within the chamber, particularly in my absence.
They may exercise any functions of the mayor at my request, or if I'm prevented by illness, absence or otherwise from exercising the function, or if there is a casual vacancy in the office of mayor.
It is as important now, more than ever, that we have a robust strong and united council capable of upholding its civic functions to the best of its ability.
My role is to show the leadership needed to take this council forward. I'll be leaning on Cr Roberts to help me achieve the most we possibly can for the next two years and eight months.
I look forward to joining my colleagues once again when we meet for the next ordinary council meeting of the year in February.
