His property, which is located within a caravan park off Hastings River Drive, was badly damaged in the March floods.
Mr Henward is grateful Marine Rescue Port Macquarie volunteers have come forward to offer their time to the clean up project.
"It's fantastic, as it's been such a worry," he said.
A local building apprentice has also volunteered to work on the property since June.
Marine Rescue Mid North Coast regional operations manager Randall Gawne said community members are supportive of their organisation, and the clean up effort is an opportunity to give back.
Mr Gawne said there have been about 20 people who have all helped out on the clean up projects.
Volunteers from the organisation also rolled up their sleeves to help a local family in Kendall through a renovation rescue project on their home.
In March, Mr Henward started loading up his van with valuable items ready to leave, as he was concerned about the rising water.
"However the water just came up so quick," he said.
Mr Henward had to stand on his kitchen bench to escape the rising water and called for help via his emergency beeper, which he wears around his neck.
NSW SES volunteers arrived on an Inflatable Rescue Boat to rescue Mr Henward.
Mr Henward stayed at flood emergency accommodation in Port Macquarie, before staying with a relative for a few months and then at a motel in town.
Unfortunately he lost a lot of items which were sentimental to him.
"I collected items and I had a lot of books, match boxes, cars and magazines," he said.
Mr Henward said he's looking forward to getting back into his hobby of making models, once he moves into his home.
