A History of Port Macquarie Landcare Group 1998-2021 tracks the history of the passionate community group that has rescued green reserves from weeds and neglect, created homes for wildlife, and planted thousands of native plants in regeneration efforts.
Port Macquarie Landcare Group have kindly donated a copy of the book to the Port Macquarie Library for the community to enjoy and for research purposes.
Landcare volunteer Joan Wilson said the idea to put together a book on the group's history has been a few years in the making.
"When we reached 20 years of operation in 2018 we decided to do something to mark the occasion and decided on releasing a book of our history," she said.
"A lot of the time our volunteers give up their time and spend their life helping regenerate the environment and they aren't usually recognised for it.
"We have many dedicated volunteers and we wanted to acknowledge the work that they do and have done over the years."
Port Macquarie Landcare Group funding officer Julie Ho said a number of projects have been a community effort over the years.
"So many people have been involved in Landcare including schools, service clubs and youth groups. This book honours them as well for all of the support they have given us," she said.
"A lot of the work that we do isn't seen and many people aren't aware of it, but the majority of green spaces in our region are because of Landcare."
