Rain again looks likely to continue as the Hastings River District Cricket Association prepares for the 40-over competition commencement this weekend.
HRDCA president Craig Lobegeier said he was looking forward to the end of the 20-over shortened format which has run for the last four weeks.
"We've had too much T20 and want to get back to some longer form of the game," he said.
The rain has caused plenty of problems for curators of turf pitches at Andrews Park, Oxley Oval, Laurieton Oval and Wayne Richards Park.
"It's hard because you can't get onto the wickets when you want to and you get all the weed that grows and the kikuyu almost grows overnight," he said.
"It's not great. They say it's La Nina and we seem to live through this more regularly than not lately, something always happens. But we've got a pretty positive group and everyone has been buoyed by the thought of playing. You can only try."
Lobegeier expects Macquarie Hotel to be the team to beat in most grades with the challenge to come from Port City in first grade along with Beechwood and Wauchope in second grade.
"I think Macquarie have got a big chance in both grades," he said.
"I don't like predicting outcomes, but they've got a pretty good nucleus of players and picked up a couple of handy players they could have easily palmed off to other clubs."
